July 19 (Sunday) Matilda, Leicester Square, Piccadilly

Today we decided to take it really easy.  We left for the Tube relatively late for a trip to Leicester Square to look for show tickets.

After settling on a matinee performance of Matilda we headed for a bit of sightseeing in the area.  Specifically, Phyllis wanted to take us to Fortnum and Mason’s, a very upscale department store.  Of special interest were the extremely expensive ($500+) wicker picnic baskets outfitted with china, crystal, silver, linens, and insulated containers for food and beverages.

Most of the staff wore morning coats (tails).  It was fun looking at china and other blingy items.  Nothing was purchased, although Mary had her eye on a tea set.  Since Mary and Paul will be back in London at the end of our trip, we will see if Mary ends up with the tea set.

We stumbled across a lovely pastry shop/restaurant serving High Tea at half the price at Harrods…so tea it was today.

After lunch we went to the show and then headed back to Earls Court area for dinner and bed.
